My First Blog Post

Stay true to yourself and you will end up incredibly happy..

Hello everyone!

I am not sure if there is anyone out there who cares to read about my life or about all of the exciting things I try to do with my time on Earth, but I’m hoping that this will help someone else realize that the world is more than you think.

This is gonna focus on my life, events that occur, travel, and just anything and everything. Living so far away is hard so I figured this would be something some people might enjoy!

Stay tuned for my “First” blog post..

XOXO

Forever Friend.

“That’s when I realized what a true friend was. Someone who would always love you – the imperfect you, the confused you, the wrong you – because that is what people are supposed to do..”

r.j.l.

Hello everyone,

Today I want to express my love and gratitude to Abby Stauffer. Her and I have been friends since the 5th grade when Mrs. Pam Reynolds put us as seat partners. Since then, Abby and I have grown up to become something neither of us ever thought we would be.

If you would have asked us four years ago on our high school graduation where we saw ourselves in four years, we would probably would have laughed and said just graduated college, living at home, trying to find a job (dietetics and dentistry were the dream).

Abby went to a state college and I went to a private college. We would talk when we could at college but both of us were off trying to figure out our place in the world. We would always pick things up during the summer months when we spent all of our time at the Swea City pool being lifeguards. Our friendship has never been the type where we have to talk every day, we text/facetime every now and then, but like I said before, we are off discovering who we are meant to be.

After I graduated from BVU, I moved 1,000 miles from away, have done some of the most incredible things and have met some of the best people. My friendship with Abby grew stronger. She supported me and reassured me that I was doing what I needed to do to accomplish my dreams.

Recently, Abby was put into the same position. Abby got into COLUMBIA UNVERSITY!!!!! AN IVY FRICKEN SCHOOL!!!!!!! IN NYC!!!!!!! Her dream is to be an editor so she is currently enrolled in their 7 week publishing course. This girl is fricken amazing. She inspires me everyday.

Today, I was lucky enough to get to spend the entire day with her. We toured almost all of NYC. If you name it, we probably did. It allowed us a lot of time to catch up. We talked about our lives, our hopes/dreams, our fears, and some past memories. We even said a bitter sweet goodbye in Time Square; I feel like someone could write a movie about that haha..

But as I was sitting on the 7 Train heading back to Queens, I sat and collected my thoughts about Abby and I’s friendship. I got emotional thinking about how far we have come in four years since we graduated high school together. You never really realize how far you’ve come until you spend time with someone who has the same dreams as you; being bigger than small town Iowa. It’s refreshing and so exciting knowing that this is what we are supposed to be doing.

We are just two small town Iowa girls who are trying to make their mark on the world. Two girls trying to show people that the world is large and full of amazing things when you step out of your comfort zone.

So if you are reading this and are scared to take the leap into the unknown, DO NOT BE. I guarantee it will be the best thing that ever happens to you. Take the new job, date the boy/girl, get a dog, MOVE ACROSS THE COUNTRY, or travel outside of the country. Whatever it is you’re wanting to do, DO IT. Money can be replaced, time cannot. Life is short. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? Dreams are meant to be chased.

Make the world your ball of clay and mold it into the life you want. Don’t be in your 40s regretting not taking the chances you had when you were in your 20s.

XOXO,

A

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
